Prominent Sea Service Veterans to be recognized for
service to country and community at September 15 Dinner
WASHINGTON, D.C. [July 6, 2010] – Navy veteran and entertainer Bill Cosby, World War II Marine Corps veteran and former football player for both the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys Eddie LeBaron, and first African-American Navy sonar technician and survivor of the 1942 USS Truxton (DD-229) Lanier Phillips will be honored for their service to country and community at the United States Navy Memorial’s 2010 “Lone Sailor” Awards Dinner on Wednesday, September 15. The black tie gala will be held at The National Building Museum, 401 F. Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

Navy Memorial’s Navy TV Airs 120 Rarely Seen, Archival Navy Films
Internet Television Network Partners With Periscope Film
To Showcase Vast Film Collection
WASHINGTON, D.C. [May 11, 2010] – With Washington’s GI Film Festival launching next week, the U.S. Navy Memorial is announcing their screening of 120 rarely seen archival Naval films on the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Internet television network Navy TV. Obtained through a partnership with Periscope Film LLC, the films were salvaged by the founders of Periscope Film, who also share a passion for military history. Within the next twelve months, visitors of Navy TV will be able to view the collection in its entirety at www.navytv.org.

On Saturday, October 11, the U.S. Navy Memorial will celebrate the 2nd annual "Navy Day in DC" on the Memorial Plaza and inside the adjacent Naval Heritage Center. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. a variety of ceremonies and activities will be held to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the U.S. Navy Memorial, and the 233rd anniversary of the U.S. Navy. This event is being held in conjunction with the Naval District Washington.
